Rathburn Tool & Manufacturing continued the expansion of its secondary service capabilities and meet the ongoing customer demands for traceability in parts with the acquisition of a Zetalase XL 20W laser etching machine.

“The Zetalase gives us enhanced options for lot traceability on a wide range of materials and can penetrate through most coatings,” says Rathburn Process Engineer Derek Horner. He adds, “Being able to serialize each part and engrave on the circumference of a part provides a great option for customers that need individual serialization, lot identification, or other unique images.”

The Zetalase XL 20W utilizes Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) fiber laser technology to mark metals, most plastics, carbide aluminum, and painted or coated materials. It has a programmable Z-axis with a marking field of 3.93″ x 3.93″ and has a full fourth axis to engrave as much as 120 degrees around the circumference of a part. The machine allows flexibility of use by adjusting the intensity of the laser based on the material, coating, or unique customer requirements.
