Rathburn Tool & Manufacturing recently expanded its roster of Takisawa gantry lathes with the purchase of a Takisawa TT 2600G type A twin spindle gantry lathe. This purchase not only represents the ongoing expansion of technology at Rathburn, but it also enables the company to improve quality and throughput with less machine-tending.
The Takisawa TT 2600G type A helps boost productivity by enabling operators to produce more parts per machine, which translates into more parts in less time. The result is that the cycle time for each part is reduced, which means production speeds increase.
Rathburn Senior Engineer Rich Franklin, who has helped bring five Takisawa machines online over the past four years, remarks, “The features of this new machine will make our production faster and more accurate than ever before. That’s going to be great for our customers.”
The new machine comes with the high rigid box guide ways of Takisawa and 16-pallet work feeder with a 10-inch chuck and 10-station tool turret for both the left and right spindle, which can be controlled independently for machining. It will gantry feed parts as big as 17.6 pounds that are 7.87″ diameter and 4.72″ in length. The Rathburn team is planning to pair the new gantry lathe with an existing robot and mill to add even more options for turned and milled parts.
The powerful Raku-Raku loader and monitor software on the Takisawa TT 2600G pairs the technology of work seat confirmation, tool load monitoring, and tool life management with the time-tested quality of Takisawa. This feature and others like tool setter software and programmable air blow allows for a shift in labor from simple machine monitoring to a focus on the finer points of quality and process optimization.
