How We Solve Manufacturing Challenges
Every manufacturing challenge is unique. Rathburn works alongside customers to develop practical, production-focused solutions that improve quality, reduce costs, and support long-term success.
Challenge
A manufacturer relied on an off-the-shelf spray nozzle that wore out after only a few production shifts, causing costly line stoppages and reducing operational efficiency. No drawings, models, or material specifications existed for the component.
Solution
Rathburn reverse engineered the nozzle, provided design assistance, recommended a more durable material, and developed a new production-ready design optimized for performance and longevity.
Outcome
The redesigned component increased wear life by five times, reduced line stoppages, and was delivered in just three weeks at a cost comparable to the previous solution.
Challenge
A long-time customer needed to re-source several machined castings but lacked access to the molds controlled by another supplier, creating a significant production risk.
Solution
Working closely with the customer’s engineering and quality teams, Rathburn applied Design for Manufacturability principles to redesign the components for production from bar stock rather than castings, eliminating the need for new molds.
Outcome
The customer successfully transitioned production without investing in new tooling or experiencing interruptions, moving from design modifications to first samples in less than one month.
Challenge
A growing safety equipment manufacturer needed to outsource several machined components but required a supplier capable of maintaining strict quality standards while meeting aggressive production schedules.
Solution
Rathburn conducted on-site reviews with the customer’s quality team, addressed undocumented quality requirements, provided PPAP samples, and leveraged new mill-turn technology to support both turning and milling operations.
Outcome
The project met quality expectations from the first samples, enabling the customer to confidently outsource production and leading to multiple repeat orders shortly after launch.
